Self-Help Treatment (Online)
Self-help online treatment means accessing evidence based treatment for OCD via your computer. This can be a great starting point if you are new to OCD therapy, it can also be an excellent refresher if you have done ERP before.

The self-help programs listed here are free (or low cost) and affiliated with reputable institutions such as universities, hospitals, or registered charities. These programs are more likely to have undergone rigorous evaluation to ensure they provide safe and effective support.
While there are many paid programs developed by individuals—some of which may be excellent—the options shared here have the advantage of being evidence-based, publicly accountable, and transparent in their outcomes.
Do I need a diagnosis to access self-help treatment?
No. One of the great strengths of online self-help is its accessibility. In fact, wanting to promote these programs is one of the major drivers of creating this website. The evidence-based programs listed below are designed to teach practical skills that can support a wide range of mental health concerns, not just OCD.

That said, self-help is not a substitute for a thorough psychological assessment, which can help identify whether your experience may be better understood as part of a different or more complex condition. A trained mental health professional will be able to establish if self-help is appropriate for your situation.

If you want to engage with self-help tools, please consider:
-
Match the tool to your needs: Self-help is most suitable for mild to moderate symptoms. If you're experiencing severe distress or safety concerns, professional support is essential.
-
Know the limits: Self-help can be empowering, but it’s hard to assess your own progress. If symptoms persist or worsen, seek professional help.
-
Build support: These programs work best when used alongside support from others—whether that’s friends, family, or a clinician.

These free and low-cost programs are credible, well-vetted, and a great place to start—but knowing when to reach out for more help is just as important.
